Sites Related Directly to Education.

  • Center for Image Processing in Education.   This site is about the promotion of computer-aided visualization as a tool for teaching and
learning.  This site offers products and services for educators (such as workshops) for a fee, but is rich in  links to sites for obtaining useful information, software, and some lesson plans.  I recommend checking out this site.
  • Fun with Photos.  By Cathleen Chamberlain from Oswego City School District in New York.  She has good links to information about digital imagery sample ideas for using digital photos.
  • Educational Uses for Digital Cameras.  This site primarily directed at Casio products and is quite old.  I have not seen this site change in a few years.  There are a few links to lesson plans which incorporate digital cameras.  May be useful.
  • Digital Imaging Resources for Educators.  This site closely associated with the use of Casio products but also has good information about acquiring and manipulating digital photographs, There used to be information about the usage of some Image Processing software and how to acquire free and/or shareware versions of image processing software.  There was also previously a discussion about file formats.  I could not find any of this in my most recent check of the website, but I may have just missed it.

Commercial Sites/Services with good information.

  • Digital Cameras, Photography, Imaging Software, & Image ScannersDefinitely a commercial site but has a lot of interesting valuable features if you are shopping for a new camera or scanner.   The author has done an incredible job of putting together this site and I have found it very useful when shopping for digital cameras.  He has extensive reviews of many different cameras I was particularly intrigued by his Comparometer, a page that allows you to load two pictures, side by side, of the same subject in the same lighting conditions but shot with different cameras.   There is also a TIPs section which looks like it has limited applications in an educational setting, but I recognize the possibility that something useful for educators could show up in there.  In general, I have found this site to be very useful for me in decision-making for purchases.
  • KODAK: Digital Learning Center.  Kodak's collection of tips, techniques, and information about digital imaging.
  • A few scanning tips – scanner basics 101This is an excellent site to obtain information about how scanners work and how to effectively scan images to obtain a digitized version on your computer. The author provides pictorial examples of the effects of different scanning parameters and properties.
  • Free Software and Samples.   From Digital Light & Color, a manufacturer of software for processing digital photographs.  The samples are pdf documents so you need to have Adobe Acrobat (or the browser plugin) to view them.  What I've seen there so far seems to be pretty good information on topics such as digital "Basics" and "Image Retouching Techniques."
